After Care

Chopping Boards
All of our food products are coated with 2 coats of food safe and nut free mineral oil before leaving our workshop.  The mineral oil dries without the sheen of some other oils and offers a natural look, its perfect for things like chopping boards and kitchen products because it offers a non-toxic finish which is completely food safe.  Our advise is to re oil your product every week for a month and then once a year.

There is a little saying:
"Oil it once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, and then once a year for the rest of your life.”

With regards to general every day care- try to avoid emerging your board in water - wash it with warm soapy water, store it on a flat surface to avoid movement and do not subject the board to significant changes in temperature.

From The Oak Tree cannot be held liable for any mishandling, lack of oiling, inappropriate storage, improper maintenance or incorrect fixing. We do our very best to ensure all of our products are sanded well and do not have any splinters.

Non-Food Oak Products
All of our non food products have been treated with Danish oil. Danish oil is suitable for all types of wood,  it contains special ingredients which prevent it drying to a gloss. It is an easy to use wipe on finish, which brings out the beauty of the timber and gives a natural, open grained, soft lustrous finish.  It can be applied to provide a hard-wearing, water-resistant satin finish.  Re oil as often as you wish but taking the above advise is recommended.

Please be aware that oil can sometimes sweat from you product due to the climate changes in transit and may need to be rubbed down upon arrival.
Once your product leaves our workshop it goes through many different climates on its journey to you. During this period some movement, cupping and cracks can occur. Once you have taken delivery, there will be a period of time that your product needs to settle into its new environment. This is normal behaviour for solid timber and even though From The Oak Tree go to great lengths to store timber correctly and apply oil sufficiently movement in timber cannot be prevented.
Door Stops and Book Ends

Please be aware that our Door Stops and Book ends are made from green oak and will split and crack during their lifetime. Small cracks may appear and if you wish you can fill these with wax. Existing cracks can get wider and this is entirely normal and considered part of its natural charm.
